UNODC Internship Opportunity 2016 - Abuja, Nigeria

UNODC is looking for a competent intern to work at its regional office in Abuja, Nigeria. Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator and the substantive guidance of UNODC ECOWAS Project Regional the Forensic Expert, the intern will work closely with project team members located in Abuja and Dakar, as well as national and sub-regional counterparts to ensure the effectiveness of the project.

Eligibility Requirements:

Education:

  • A first-level university degree in communication, economics, political science, or related field;
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree;
  • Undergraduates who have not completed at least three years of full-time studies and those graduates with a higher degree who have already completed all of their studies are not eligible to participate in the internship programme.


Work Experience:

  • No professional work experience required.


Languages:
  • English or French are the working languages of the United Nations;
  • For the position advertised full professional fluency in French, with proven drafting and communication skills, is required. The ability to speak English with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most conversations on practical, social, and professional topics, is also required.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intern will carry out the following activities:

  • Draft, edit, design and facilitate the publication of a West African forensic capacity evaluation directory based on available internally generated and open source materials;
  • Coordinate the creation, collection and formatting of training and conference presentation materials;
  • Draft official communications, press releases, speeches and articles for project team members and ROSEN management personnel;
  • Maintain and update the project internet and social media pages;
  • Facilitate the production and dissemination of public information material through website, brochures, posters, letters, e-mails, and broadcasts in various languages as required reaching a wide public audience;
  • Facilitate the implementation of official travel missions and associated project activities throughout the region;
  • Providing administrative and general organisational assistance, and perform other duties as assigned. 


Intern conditions:
  • UNODC internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UNODC accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  •  The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNODC during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNODC in any official capacity.

Eco-generation calls for applications for the 16th Eco-generation Regional Ambassador Program. The Eco-generation Regional Ambassador is an elite position awarded to the youth aged between 13 and 24 qualified to represent Tunza Eco-generation. Eco-generation Regional Ambassador Program provides exceptional experiences with the opportunities to actively plan, to execute or participate in various environmental awareness programs in each region and country.

About the Program:

Duration: The 16th Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors (hereinafter referred to as 'ambassador') shall be in the position for six (6) months from March 2016 until August 2016.
As a representative to Tunza Eco-generation, Eco-generation Regional Ambassador must embody the spirit and values of Tunza Eco-generation. Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors must take on various roles to promote and raise environmental awareness for each region and country they are representing.
Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors would carry the voice of the future generations at an international level. Since new visitors will gain their first impression of Tunza Eco-generation through Eco-generation Ambassadors, they are also expected to be knowledgeable on current environmental issues and on the information about Tunza Eco-generation platform as well.

Duties:
  • An ambassador must post at least two reports a month, one about the environmental issues given by Eco-generation and the other report about the environmental issues taking places in your region;
  • An ambassador should check e-mail box and Eco-generation Ambassador Forum often so as to promptly respond to Eco-generation team's notice;
  • If there is any change on the personal information such as e-mail, contact number, and home address, changed personal information must be submitted to the Eco-generation team.

  • Enhancing promotions for one's organization or environmental awareness programs;
  •  Promotion goods for effective environmental awareness events to be planned and executed by an ambassador;

  • Ambassadors aged between 13 and 15 can be a potential delegate to the 2017 Global Youth Eco-Leadership Summit to be held in Seoul, Korea with a voluntary application;
  • Ambassadors aged between 16 and 24 can be a potential facilitator to the 2017 Global Youth Eco-Leadership Summit to be held in Seoul, Korea with a voluntary application


Eligibility:
  •  Open to everyone aged between 13 and 24 (as of 14th February 2016);
  • They must be enthusiastic to spread news and stories about their local environmental issues at a global level.

Criteria:
  • 70% of Application, 30% of Activity Points out of 100%;
  • Six (6) month of coverage plan should be stated with concrete action plans;
  • Any false information on an application form can cause disqualification or cancelation of position even after being selected;
  • Any unfair practice in gathering activity points can cause disqualification.

Eligibility:

Call for Entries: UN Poster for Peace Contest 2016

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the first UN General Assembly resolution, which established the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs is pleased to sponsor the UN Poster for Peace Contest.
The contest aims to raise awareness of the need for nuclear disarmament and to inspire citizens across the globe to add their voices, and use their artistic talents, to promote a world free of nuclear weapons.
Eligibility:
Anyone of any age can enter this contest, and it is open to all people in all countries. Children below the age of 13 will need to have their parents’ permission, and will need to have parents (or a legal guardian) help with their submissions.
Specifications:
  • Art work must be original, submitted by the artist. It should be developed such that it could be displayed in a 60 by 90 centimetres (2 feet x 3 feet) format.
  • Entries must be two-dimensional using either traditional methods (pens, pencils, crayons, charcoal, oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolour, etc.) or modern digital illustration process.
  • As all art work must be fully original, no entries will be accepted or considered if they are deemed to use in whole or part derivative images which could be considered plagiaristic.
Poster File Size and File Type:
  • Maximum file size: 10 MB.
  • File type: JPEG, PNG or PDF.
Prizes:
There will be three winners.
  1. First prize will be USD 3,000
  2. Second will be USD 2,000
  3. Third will be USD 1,000
Those making submissions agree that the UN retains all copyrights of the materials submitted. Files uploaded to the contest website should be solely images of the artwork and not contain photographic images of the contestant nor other individuals.
